Carl Aron Dufilho Society Endowed Scholarship
Carl W. Aron was a licensed pharmacist for the state of Louisiana since 1962, taking over his family’s business in 1971. He was appointed to the Board of Pharmacy in 1971 by Gov. John McKeithen and continued to serve the board for over 50 years with 25 of those years serving as President. Carl was the longest serving member on any Board of Pharmacy in the country. He was appointed Lifetime Honorary President of the NABP and was elected President Emeritus of the Louisiana State Board of Pharmacy. Carl won many prestigious awards during his pharmacy career including the Bowl of Hygeia Award for Community Service from the LPA and the Meritorious Achievement Award from the College of Pharmacy at ULM. In 2006 the NABP presented their highest honor, the Lester E. Hosto Distinguished Service award to Mr. Aron. During the 2021 regular session of the Louisiana Senate, Resolution 96 was passed congratulating Carl on 50 years of service to the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
Carl was integral in instituting the “Prescription Monitoring Program” for the State of Louisiana, an electronic system for monitoring controlled substances and drugs of concern dispensed in the state or to an address in the state. This system was picked up by almost every state in the U.S. soon thereafter to fight the opioid crisis in our country.
