Glen & Jo Ann Williams
Respected educators and longtime ULM supporters, Glen & Jo Ann Williams fund a scholarship for prospective teachers from Franklin Parish. Passionate about their former profession, they established the award over 20 years ago with the goal of luring quality teachers to the Winnsboro area.
“We’ve been educators and it helped make our living,” Glen Williams said. "And so we give a scholarship to someone from Franklin Parish after they’ve been admitted to the School of Education. We encourage them to come back to Franklin Parish to teach. We’ve had some go elsewhere, but most of ours come back.:
“We’re proud of the standards that the school has set and that it has continued to be what is is,” Jo Ann Williams explained. “ULM is responsible for my education after high school. I earned three degrees from ULM and every one of them has helped me in so many ways.”
The Williams’s association with ULM goes back to the 1950’s when both attended as students. Glen, who majored in Health & Physical Education, went on to coach at Crowville High School for 21 years. Jo Ann taught English before moving into Franklin Parish’s Central Office for education.
Successful businesspeople, they raise Angus cattle and once owned a home health agency. Glen worked on a soil conservation committee for 29 years and served in the Louisiana legislature as a representative. He also served on the ULM Alumni Association’s Board of Directors for several years. For several years, he even acted as the public address announcer for ULM track meets.
In 2013, Glen & Jo Ann were honored as ULM’s Golden Arrow Award Winners. The award, established in 1981, recognizes outstanding service to ULM and/or community, which reflects ULM’s values of excellence, integrity, and service.
