The Upshaw Family Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship shall be named the Upshaw Family Endowed Scholarship established by NLU alumni pair, Ken and Michelle Upshaw. The purpose is to provide scholarships for deserving students majoring in: Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Risk Management and Insurance, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or Construction Management under the umbrella of the College of Business and Social Sciences.
To qualify for the scholarship, a student must meet the following:
A. Recipient(s) must be a full-time student pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Risk Management and Insurance, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or Construction Management.
B. Recipient(s) must meet university standards for acceptance in the University of Louisiana at Monroe. As an incoming freshman, recipient(s) must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA in high school. A university student must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA in college courses.
C. Scholarship is not renewable.
D. Must be a graduate of a high school located in Ouachita Parish.
E. Donor’s intent is to assist students who have a financial need as evidenced by the Student Aid Report (SAR) received by the university after the FAFSA process is complete each year and who might otherwise be unable to attend college without this scholarship. Students who are eligible for federal educational grants which do not have to be repaid, such as Federal Pell Grants, are not eligible for this scholarship, absent very extenuating circumstances. The Admissions Office shall have the latitude to make such a decision keeping
in mind the original intent of this donation.
