McPhearson/McEacharn Opportunity Scholarship

The scholarship has been named the McPhearson/McEacharn Opportunity Scholarship, established by Michelle McEacharn and her family in honor and in memory of her mother and grandmother, both named Flora McPhearson, and her husband, Roger ‘Bucky’ McEacharn. The purpose is to provide scholarships for non-traditional students pursuing a degree or post-baccalaureate certificate in Accounting.

To qualify for the scholarship, a recipient must meet the following:

A. Recipient must meet ULM admission requirements and be formally admitted to ULM.

B. Recipient will be a full-time or part-time student pursuing a degree in Accounting or a post-baccalaureate certificate in Accounting.

C. Recipient must be at least 28 years of age. If no applicants in a given selection period meet this requirement, the scholarship can be awarded to someone who does not meet this age requirement, but must still meet the intent of representing a ‘non-traditional’ student.

D. Unless being renewed, preference is given to students who have not attended college in the past three years or who has never attended college.

E. Scholarship is renewable if a 3.0 minimum grade point average is maintained.

F. Donor’s intent is to help students better their lives by pursuing their education, especially when pursuing their education will cause financial stress or when the student may not be able to pursue their education without financial support. Students who are eligible for federal educational grants which do not have to be repaid, such as Federal Pell Grants, are not eligible for this scholarship, absent very extenuating circumstances. The Admissions Office shall have the latitude to make such a decision keeping in mind the original intent of this donation.

SELECTION OF RECIPIENT:
The ULM Accounting Program will make recommendations on recipients through the normal scholarship selection process which will make the selection based upon these governing criteria.
