William F. Sherman First Generation Scholarship

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:

To qualify for the scholarship, a recipient must meet the following:

A. Recipient(s) must be a resident of Louisiana.

B. Recipient(s) must be an undergraduate first-generation college student, (i.e., neither custodial parent(s) nor legal guardian(s) have earned a college degree. A foster relationship does not disqualify a student from receiving support designated for first-generation students because a foster student is considered to be in state custody.) with remaining financial need after deducting Estimated Family Contribution and all federal/state/institutional grant or scholarship aid from student’s Cost of Attendance and/or students, whether first-generation or not, awarded the federal Pell grant.

C. Recipient(s) must be admitted to and matriculated in the institution awarding the scholarship for the period(s) during which scholarship funds are disbursed.

D. Recipient(s) must be a full-time student pursuing a degree in the College of Health Sciences, or Science, Math or Computer Science and must be of African-American heritage.

E. Scholarship may be renewed if a 2.5 minimum GPA is maintained. The scholarship may be renewed up to a maximum of seven semesters for an incoming freshman only. All other classifications will receive the scholarship for the remaining semesters required to complete a four-year degree.

F. ULM will provide recipient(s) with structured support through active and engaged advising.

G. ULM will provide recipient(s) with meaningful campus employment of at least ten hours per week over and above the scholarship.

IV. SELECTION OF RECIPIENT:
The ULM Scholarship Office will select scholarship recipient(s).
